National Tree Day is being celebrated this weekend and the 少妇免费直播 and Birdlife Midwest-Geraldton are encouraging the community to get their hands dirty by planting seedlings.
The free Planting Day at the Greenough River Mouth aims to help rehabilitate the coastal dunes.
少妇免费直播 Deputy Mayor Cr Natasha Colliver said there are lots of reasons to revegetate coastal reserves.
“Revegetating sand dunes creates wildlife habitats and provides important food resources,” she said.
“It is also crucial for coastal protection as the vegetation acts as a natural buffer against erosion from wind and waves.”
“This year the City has partnered with Birdlife Midwest-Geraldton and Planet Ark to plant 800 seedlings which will be counted towards National Tree Day and the City’s Million Trees Project.”
Those interested in attending the event can meet at the Greenough River carpark from 9am to 11am on Saturday 26 July 2025.
No gardening experience is required and refreshments will be provided. Please wear suitable clothes and footwear as well as bring your own gloves and water bottle.
Founded in 1996, National Tree Day is celebrated this year on 27 July 2025 and promotes the importance of planting trees as well as encourages communities to come together and spend time in nature.
This event aligns with the “Liveable” theme in the new Strategic Community Plan 2025 – 2035, Your Voice – Our Future where managing and protecting the natural environment is a priority.
