Greener suburbs, economic diversity, advocacy and an engaged community are the fresh focus in the Strategic Community Plan 2025 – 2035, and the ÉÙ¸¾Ãâ·ÑÖ±²¥’s new budget is poised to support those themes.

Following Council’s adoption tonight, the City will proceed with redeveloping the Geraldton Foreshore Youth Precinct, completing the Airport Microgrid as well as creating a new cell at Meru Landfill.

These are just some of the projects the community will benefit from in the new budget confirmed ÉÙ¸¾Ãâ·ÑÖ±²¥ Mayor Jerry Clune.

Growing Greater Geraldton, Together is the centre of this year’s budget which sees us take action on our newly developed Strategic Community Plan 2025 – 2035 Your Voice – Our Future,” he said.

“Locals let us know that they want the community prioritised more so that it’s safe and engaged as well as our natural areas enhanced, increased regional growth and steadfast leadership.

“I’m pleased to see several projects go ahead or be completed including Nangetty-Walkaway Bridge, Mullewa Caravan Park upgrades and repairs to Walkaway Station Museum.”

To ensure fairness and equity in how rates are distributed, the City will revert from a single GRV rating category to two distinct categories: residential and non-residential.

“This change creates an equitable rate structure due to valuation movements and makes sure there’s no unequal impacts on residential ratepayers, who would otherwise bear a greater share of the rate burden,” continued Mayor Clune.

“Reverting to two rating categories also supports the City’s financial sustainability while being mindful of ongoing cost-of-living pressures.

“Because of this the average increase to residential rates will be around $77,” finished Mayor Clune.

The ÉÙ¸¾Ãâ·ÑÖ±²¥’s 2025-26 Budget is prioritised as follows:

  • Carpark and sporting facilities lighting renewals $383K
  • CCTV Network renewals to help increase safety $379K

The City will prioritise these focuses through its service and program delivery as well as partnering with other organisations, advocating to various government bodies and providing groups with financial or in-kind support.
